Milicias sirias se preparan para declarar la liberación total de Al Raqqa del Estado Islámico
En conjunto con tropas de EE.UU lograron combatir a las fuerzas del Estado Islámico para liberar la ciudad después de 4 años.
Milicias sirias apoyadas por Estados Unidos ya limpiaron de minas el 98% de Al Raqqa, y mañana prevén anunciar formalmente la liberación de la ciudad tras haber expulsado al Estado Islámico (EI) de lo que el grupo consideraba la capital de su "califato", dijeron hoy un vocero de las milicias y un militar estadounidense.
En vísperas de la conferencia de prensa para declarar el fin de la batalla de Al Raqqa, la unidad femenina del grupo kurdo que lidera las milicias que capturaron la ciudad dijo hoy que continuará su lucha para liberar a las mujeres del brutal dominio del grupo yihadista en otras partes de Siria.
Nisreen Abdullah, una comandante de la rama femenina de las Unidades de Protección Popular (YPG), leyó una declaración en la Plaza del Paraíso, en el centro de Al Raqqa, el luhar donde combatientes del EI acostumbraban llevar a cabo asesinatos en público.
La comandante dijo que su unidad, formada exclusivamente por mujeres, perdió a 30 combatientes durante la ofensiva de cuatro meses sobre la norteña ciudad Siria, que el EI controlaba desde 2014.
En las ciudades que controló, el EI obligó a las mujeres a usar los tradicionales velos islámicos que cubren su rostro y cuerpo y condenó a muchas mujeres a muerte por lapidación por adulterio.
Cientos de mujeres de la minoría yazidí de Irak fueron capturadas y sometidas a esclavitud sexual.
"Hemos alcanzado nuestra meta, que era golpear los bastiones de los terroristas en su capital, liberar a las mujeres y restablecer el honor de las yazidíes, devolviendo la libertad a decenas de esclavas", dijo Abdullah, citada por la cadena de noticias CNN.
Las Fuerzas de Siria Democrática (FSD), una coalición de milicias sirias lideradas por las YPG, dijeron el martes pasado que las operaciones militares en Al Raqqa habían concluido y que sus combatientes habían tomado control total de la ciudad.
El vocero de la coalición militar internacional anti EI que encabeza Estados Unidos, que dio apoyo aéreo a las FSD durante la batalla, dijo hoy en Twitter que las milicias habían removido minas y explosivos del 98% de Al Raqqa.
El portavoz, coronel Ryan Dillon, agregó que algunos pocos yihadistas siguen atrincherados cerca del principal estadio de la ciudad, y que se estaban revisando túneles y edificios en busca de más islamistas.
Las FSD dijeron que mañana darán una conferencia de prensa en Al Raqqa durante la cual planean declarar oficialmente que la ciudad ha sido liberada por completo del EI luego de cuatro años.
La caída del Al Raqqa constituye una enorme derrota para el grupo extremista, que había hecho de la ciudad el centro de su reino del terror y que ha visto en los últimos meses cómo se desmorona el "califato" que proclamó a mediados de 2014 en territorios contiguos de Siria e Irak que logró controlar.
Los yihadistas aún dominan zonas al sur de la ciudad de Al Raqqa y de Deir Ezzor, así como pequeños bolsones de territorio en otros puntos de Siria e Irak.
También hoy, un portal de noticias semiestatal saudita informó que un funcionario de alta jerarquía de Arabia Saudiya se encuentra en Al Raqqa para discutir el rol de su país en los esfuerzos de reconstrucción de la ciudad.
El portal Okaz, que citó a fuentes no identificadas, dijo que Thamer al-Sabhan prevé reunirse en Al Raqqa con el consejo municipal para discutir el "rol prominente en la reconstrucción" de la monarquía saudita.
Okaz agregó que Emiratos Árabes Unidos también jugará un rol importante en la reconstrucción.
La publicación incluyó una foto que muestra a al-Sabhan en Al Raqqa junto a Brett McGurk, el enviado de Estados Unidos para la coalición anti EI, quien se encuentra en la ciudad desde el martes.
Al-Sabhan es ministro para Asuntos Árabes de la monarquía sunnita saudita. Antes fue embajador de Irak, pero dejó su puesto luego de recibir amenazas de milicias chiitas.
